Song
for Lagoon Valley
Let
love swirl around you,
like honking Canada geese riding the updraft,
or snowy egrets leaning on one leg,
or like hare and rabbit galore,
bounding through spring grass,
and heron craning their necks toward the sun,
and mallard shimmering teal at the sky,
or silent gray fox and watchful mule deer,
or the belly-can pelican, white frosting
on the last sunny spot of lagoon as the sun sets.
Let
love swirl around you,
Like midsummer swallows darting for bugs,
over and under and through the culvert as
mud-sleek muskrat come up for air
and to see what all the fuss is about.
Let
love swirl around you,
even like buzzing gnats in a cloud
skydiving your head
as you walk the perimeter road.
Let
love remind you,
like the sapphire water at twilight,
of the way it's supposed to be,
all teeming and honking and wild and free
in the valley around our lagoon.
